Paid Family Leave in Effect
Connecticut
• Connecticut currently has an active law in place for paid family and medical leave.
• Employees working in the state can receive up to 12 weeks of paid leave for medical and family reasons, with an additional 2 weeks being granted for pregnancy complications that result in a serious health condition that causes incapacity.
On May 6, 2024, the Connecticut state legislature passed HB No. 5005, which amended numerous aspects of the state-wide Paid Sick Leave Law. The bill was signed into law on May 21, 2024 with a proposed effective date beginning January 1, 2025 for the first phase of changes.
• Most notably, the law will amend important aspects related to which employers are covered, which employees are eligible, how leave may be used, along with several other pertinent items.
• The amendments will be implemented in three distinct phases, with the first phase beginning on January 1, 2025 and the final phase concluding on January 1, 2027.
