• There are no existing state-wide paid family leave laws applicable to all employees in effect at this time.

• Amendments to the state law governing paid parental leave for eligible State of Georgia employees became effective on July 1, 2024, allowing eligible employees to take up to 240 hours (6 weeks) of paid parental leave per year to care for their children.

• The leave must be taken within a year following the birth of a new child or within a year after adoption or taking in a minor through foster care.
