• On July 11, 2023, Governor Janet Mills signed Maine’s Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) Program into law.

• On March 4, 2025, the Maine Department of Labor updated its Paid Family and Medical Leave Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to include new information about elective coverage options for self-employed individuals and tribal governments.

• Payroll contributions will begin on January 1, 2025 and benefits will go into effect starting on May 1, 2026
