• On April 7, 2025, the Maryland General Assembly passed a final bill which postponed the implementation dates for Maryland’s Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program. Governor Wes Moore is expected to sign the bill in the coming days. As a result, the Maryland DOL will revise the program’s effective dates as follows:

• Employer payroll deductions will begin on January 1, 2027

• Leave benefits will become available to eligible employees effective January 3, 2028

• Maryland employees are eligible for up to 12 weeks of paid family leave to care for their own medical need, care for family members, bonding or placement of a child, and addressing needs related to military deployment. We will continue to monitor any developments and provide updates as they occur in advance of the program’s January 3, 2028 effective date.
