• New York currently has an active law in place for paid family and medical leave.
• Employees who work in the state can receive up to 12 weeks of paid family leave per 52-week period for child bonding, family, and military family support reasons.
• Beginning January 1, 2025, a new law will go into effect which will provide up to 20 hours of paid leave within a 52-week calendar period for eligible pregnant workers to attend prenatal medical appointments; this benefit will be in addition to the existing 12 weeks of leave already in effect under the New York Paid Family Leave Law (“NY PFL”) and will require employers to offer a separate bank of paid, protected leave for pregnant employees for prenatal care (such as healthcare services, testing, or any pregnancy related procedures) that does not reduce the time available to them for any existing paid leave benefits, including paid family leave.
